While Malbec has been cultivated for centuries in Bordeaux and is the principal variety of Cahors in the southwest of France, this late-ripening grape has found its true home in Mendoza, in the shadows of the Argentine Andes. There the high altitude, warm, sunny days and cold nights, low humidity and sandy soils produce Malbec with dark, lush, juicy fruit, supple textures and bright acidity – a versatile match to a variety of cuisines.

Hugh brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to his craft, working vintages at Chateau Soutard Grande Cru Classe in Saint Emilion France, Chard Farm in Central Otago, Donnafugata in Italy and several vintages at Millton Vineyards in Gisborne where his passion for organic, environmentally conscious winemaking and viticulture began.
With this experience comes a philosophy shared by Hugh of producing wines which are truly reflective of the region and vineyards where the grapes are grown.
