Drawn from vines planted in 1995, this 100% Murrumbateman Syrah comes from Eden Road’s own vineyard at 640 metres above sea level. All of the fruit was de-stemmed and fermented in closed fermenters and lightly pressed at the end of fermentation mostly into a mix of one-to-three year old, 500 litre puncheons with 10% new barrels for 16 months. Only the best barrels were then selected for this label, with the remainder going into the 2017 Long Road Syrah blend. It’s terrific, cool climate Syrah offering a bright, perfumed personality. Expect a swirl of fresh and spice-laden blackberry and fresh plum and a long, savoury, finely etched finish. Again, serious value.

Hugh brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to his craft, working vintages at Chateau Soutard Grande Cru Classe in Saint Emilion France, Chard Farm in Central Otago, Donnafugata in Italy and several vintages at Millton Vineyards in Gisborne where his passion for organic, environmentally conscious winemaking and viticulture began.
